Introducing David Logan, Caseworker

As part of the Vineyard Community’s ten year anniversary this year, we are kicking off #VineyardSpotlights 🌟, a series shining a light on the people and stories behind the work we do with the homeless and most vulnerable in Richmond. We’re starting with David Logan, our caseworker who has supported more than 40 people living on the streets into accommodation over the last seven months:

When did you start working at the Vineyard, what made you want to join the team in this role? I started with Vineyard in lockdown year 2020 when things were becoming even more difficult for our vulnerable guests due to the impact of the pandemic. I loved the idea of being part of something that daily demonstrates the restoring and healing love of God in practical ways that make an immediate real difference for the person standing in front of you who has had the courage to come and say, ‘I need some help’.

What do you do day-to-day? I am a caseworker which involves a huge range of different things. If I were to sum it up, the idea is to journey alongside people, practically helping them with the changes they wish to make to help them out of crisis and flourish. Examples would be helping people move off the streets into accommodation, access mental health care, get into work, escape abusive situations, manage their debt or financial challenges.

What motivates you most to do this job? The idea of expressing God’s faithfulness by welcoming and walking with people through their darkest times towards good things for them, and that the journey might give them a little glimpse of the lost idea that they are worth something.

What has been your proudest moment in your role so far? My favourite moments are when people who have completely lost faith begin to light up with belief again that things could change for the better, that they are not a hopeless case.

What keeps you busy in your spare time? My young children, one of whom has severe disabilities and is a mischievous and joyful little handful, and my wife, Jen. I love songwriting, art, film, falconry, wild swimming, travelling with friends and getting back home to Ireland to see my family. Just before joining the Vineyard I released an album and set up an arts charity called Fer which you can find at ferproduction.com.
